Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team played well in the final day of the Panther Invitational
After battling some of the best players from Division II teams, Jesus Amezcua and Samir Chikhaoui ended up facing each other for the Flight 1 title on Sunday afternoon at the Panther Invitational.
And the match went to a third-set tiebreaker with each player winning a set 6-0. Chikhaoui took the title with a strong third set, winning 10-5.
To get to the final, Amezcua defeated Florida Tech's Aria Canadell and Florida Southern's Fabian Lundberg while Chikhaoui beat Eckerd's Victor Appelquist and Palm Beach Atlantic's Philipp Hoffmann.
The Titans also had a couple of second place finishes as Pablo Munoz placed second in Flight 3, falling to Florida Tech's Gerard Carpinell in the final while Maximiliano Faundez lost in the final of Flight 4.
Eduardo Garcia won a third-place match in Flight 2 against Eckerd's Eddie Lewis and Andreas Wejs placed third, defeating Palm Beach Atlantic's Carlos Meneses.
"Seeing these Titans win titles against strong Division II competition shows EFSC is now a player on the Florida tennis scene regardless of the level," Eastern Florida State College tennis coach Jerry Thor said. "It was great to showcase our teams at some of the top courts in our community and now it's time to learn from these matches in preparation for our ITA Regionals."
