Women's basketball team falls in overtime in quarterfinals of national tournament
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team lost a close game in overtime to Jones College Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Lubbock, Texas
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team's run at the national tournament ended Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals.
The 18th-seeded Titans battled No. 23 Jones College to the very end, falling short 64-62 in overtime in the quarterfinals at Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Rapuluchi Ngorka had one of her best games of the season, setting the national tournament single-game record with 26 rebounds to go with 21 points in the loss.
The Titans held a three-point lead with under a minute left in regulation but a long 3-pointer by Jones' Jordan Clark tied the game with 5.3 seconds left.
Eastern Florida State College's shot bounced off the rim, sending it to overtime.
The overtime was tight throughout but Jones would score the final three points to pick up the win.
The game began with the Titans jumping out to as much as a seven-point lead but Jones closed the quarter strongly, taking a two-point lead into the second quarter. Jones would take its biggest lead of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Titans 17-9 in the quarter and went into halftime leading 35-25.
But the Titans batted back with an 8-0 run to start the quarter and would head to the fourth quarter trailing by three, 42-39. From there the game remained tight throughout with neither side taking more than a four-point advantage.
Kaitlyn Sanders finished with 14 points in her final game with the Titans.
Jones College will advance to the semifinals for the first time in program history.
