Women's basketball team defeats Miami Dade on the road
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team defeated Miami Dade Friday night on the road for their eighth win
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Miami Dade 77-65 on the road Friday evening.
The Sharks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter but the Titans would chip away and down 18-14 late in the quarter Kaitlyn Sanders hit a backet and was fouled, hitting the free throw to make it a one-point game. Then Sanders stole the ball and Kristina Goncharuk hit a 3-pointer to head to the second quarter leading 20-18.
The team would lead 43-30 at halftime and went into the fourth quarter leading by 15, 61-46. But Miami Dade would not go down without a fight, cutting it to nine at one point but Sophia Ojhammar hit two big free throws and Goncharuk hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 15 points with under two minutes remaining.
Goncharuk led the offensive attack with a season-high 17 points while Rapuluchi Ngorka had her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Kaitlyn Sanders had 13 points and L'or Eyeba Mputu finished with 10.
The Titans snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-2 on the season. They will travel to Niceville for the Northwest Florida State College Tournament Dec 10-11. Eastern Florida State College will play Pearl River Community College on Dec. 10 and then Bishop State Community College on Dec. 11.
