Men's basketball team falls in quarterfinals of FCSAA Championship
The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost to Daytona State College in the quarterfinals of the FCSAA Championship on Wednesday
The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost to No. X Daytona State College on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the FCSAA Championships in Niceville.
The Titans, who finished the season with a 23-7 record, lost to the Falcons 84-75 at Northwest Florida State College.
The game was tight for much of the first half with the Titans taking the lead on a basket by Misael Cruz Rodriguez with under three minutes left in the half.
But Daytona State College would end the first half on a 7-0 run and would lead 39-34 at halftime.
The Falcons came out in the second half with another run, this time a 10-2 run to take a 49-36 lead. Nick Oliver hit one of his four 3-pointers to end the run.
The Titans would make one final run late but could not get back into the game.
Sean Register Jr. once again led the Titans with 26 points and eight rebounds while Oliver had 18 points.
Register Jr. finishes the season with 769 points which is a single season record at Eastern Florida State College.
"To finish with 23 wins with a brand new team, I am just really proud of what the accomplished," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Zach Ferrell said. "Starting 1-3 in the conference, winning 10 in a row and finishing one game out of first place in the conference. Just really proud of their effort, they came together and had resilience. Daytona is one of the best teams and we had a chance."
Daytona State College had four players finish in double digits led by Noah Mendy who had 22 points.
Daytona State College will advance to the semifinals against Gulf Coast State College on Friday.
