Parkland tops Moraine Valley in Pool A matchup
Parkland College came out fast scoring twice in the first 18 minutes to defeat Moraine Valley Community College in a Pool A matchup in the NJCAA Division I women’s soccer National Championship Tournament.
Anna McHatten got things going in the 15th minute on an assist from Alyssa Jones, finding the top corner from about 15 yards away.
Just three minutes later Shania Maddux scores after a nice thru ball from Brittany Johnson.
“The second goal kind of killed us, it is hard to score more than two or three goals against this kind of competition. Once you go down 2-nil early it is tough to come back,” Moraine Valley women’s soccer coach Albert Palar said.
Moraine Valley did have a chance to get one back in the first half as Kaylyn Egyarto has a shot go off the post but Parkland goalkeeper hits a rebound shot and a defender clears it to end the threat.
“We have been that way all year, we are organized, we are vocal and when someone gets caught out of position we know who is sliding over and covering,” Parkland College women’s soccer coach Chris Jackson said.
Ellie McKenzie scored Parkland’s third goal and Hannah Martinez wraps up the scoring for the Cobras who will now face No. 1 Paradise Valley Wednesday afternoon.
“We are ready to go. We know they are NO. 1 and had a good win yesterday but we are ready.
Moraine Valley finishes the tournament 0-2 but Palar was happy with the performance.
“Overall I can’t say anything more about our effort in this tournament, this season and these sophomores – we have 10 or 11 that were here last year I think we showed we deserved to be here and hopefully Moraine Valley will be here next year and for years to come,” Palar said.
