Women's volleyball hosts Polk State College on sophomore day
The Eastern Florida State College women’s volleyball team will be home Saturday afternoon for a Citrus Conference match against Polk State College and the three sophomores will be honored after the match
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team will be home Saturday afternoon for a Citrus Conference match.
The Titans will host Polk State College at 2 p.m. and it will be Sophomore Day at Titan Field House. The match will be big for both teams as the winner will put themselves into the postseason.
Eastern Florida State College comes into the contest 11-12 overall and 2-8 in the conference looking to pick up a win at home. The Titans battled No. 1 Florida Southwestern State College to four sets on Wednesday.
The Titans will honor the sophomore class after the match and all three have made their mark on the program. Ashley Cate, Sophia Iglesias and Emma Cook will all be playing their final match at Titan Field House on Saturday.
Cate has played in 35 matches over two seasons and is coming off a solid game against No. 1 Florida Southwestern State College on Wednesday night.
Iglesias is just the third Titans player to record over 1,000 assists in their career at EFSC as the setter has 1,185 assists heading into the match. Iglesias will be playing in her 50th match as a Titan on Saturday.
Cook will also be playing in her 50th match as a Titan on Saturday and has recorded 243 kills in two seasons as a middle hitter. Cook has committed to the University of Central Florida next season.
Polk State College also has two wins in the conference this season and is looking for their first win on the road. The Eagles are led by Alexia Ortiz who has 129 kills this season while teammate Marina Santos has recorded 114 kills.
Saturday's match begins at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House and admission is free. Fans can also watch the match live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
