Titan tennis teams fare well on Day 1 of Panther Invitational
The Eastern Florida State College men and women tennis teams had a strong showing on the first day of the Panther Invitational
The Eastern Florida State College tennis team fared well on the first day of the Panther Invitational.
The Titans women's team fielded five doubles teams and they combined to go 12-3 with two teams claiming flight championships.
In Flight 2 it came down to the two Titan teams playing for the title as both Filda Badi/Valeria Arevalo and Katharina Drebka/Lea Stormer won their first two matches to face off in the championship. And it was close as the teams tied 8-8, forcing a tiebreaker which Badi and Arevalo won.
Giulianna Hull and Luisa Varon dominated the third flight, winning by default in the first match and then posting an 8-0 win in the semifinals and 8-1 in the finals.
The team of Armelle Cerdan and Josephine Karcher placed third in Flight 1, losing to eventual champions Florida Tech in the semifinals.
Brenda Aguilar and Jamie Duque went 2-1 in the fourth flight.
On the men's side, the No. 1 doubles team of Andreas Wejs and Eduardo Garcia lost in a competitive final against Florida Tech's Aria Canadell and Ricky Corona 8-5.
The team of Jesus Amezcua/Samir Chikhaoui finished third in the second flight while Maximiliano Faundez and Pablo Munoz were third in Flight 3.
Both the men and women will compete in singles matches on Saturday and Sunday. The top four flights of the women's side will be at DeSoto Tennis Center beginning at 8 a.m. with the final three flights at Kiwi Tennis Center. The men's side begins at 11 a.m. with the first four flights at DeSoto Tennis Center. The fifth and sixth flights will begin at noon at at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club.
Players will play twice on Saturday with the championships and other matches Scheduled for Sunday morning. Admission is free.
