The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will play Daytona State College for the Southeast District Championship tonight at 5 p.m. at Orlando Health Stadium
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will face Daytona State College for the Southeast District Championship tonight at Orlando Health Stadium.
It will be a rematch of the Region 8 Final and the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The Titans have won two of the three meetings, but the Falcons won the Region 8 Championship last week.
Eastern Florida State College reached the final with a strong defensive effort and Aimee Longhurst found the back of the net with 13 minutes remaining to pick up the 1-0 victory against USC Lancaster. The Titans are now 9-6 on the season and are ranked 16th in the nation heading into the final. Last year the Titans defeated USC Lancaster in the district final to reach the national tournament and went all the way to the national championship game, falling in overtime.
Daytona State College defeated Southern Union 2-0 in the semifinal as Sophia Varga and Shaneil Buckley each scored goals for the Falcons. Daytona State College is 14-3 now and have won 10 games in a row, the last loss coming to the Titans on Sept. 20. They are ranked ninth in the NJCAA Division I poll and are looking for their first berth into the national tournament tonight.
The winner of tonight's game will get an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. Game time is 5 p.m. at Orlando Health Stadium and admission is $5. EFSC students are free when they show their school ID. You can purchase tickets ahead of tonight's game here.
The game will also be broadcast on EFSC Titans YouTube page.
