Women's soccer team shuts out Daytona State College
The No. 2 Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team defeated Daytona State College in a Region 8 Conference match Wednesday night at Orlando Health Stadium
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team opened the Region 8 Conference season with a shutout Wednesday night at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.
The second-ranked Titans defeated Daytona State College 4-0 to improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Julieta Limardo took a pass from Paula Garrido and put it in the back of the net 15 minutes into the match for the Titans.
No. 20 Daytona State College had a couple of looks but Marcelle Thedinga was up to the challenge, collecting her third straight shutout of the season.
Leading 1-0 to start the second half, Alexia Spencer wasted no time taking a cross from Cara Young and burying it into the far corner to make it 2-0.
The Titans continued to put the pressure on the Falcons defense and with 23:15 left Courtney Jade Butlion scored the first of her two goals as Young made a nice thru pass to Butlion who chipped it past the goalie to make it 3-0.
Under two minutes later Butlion scored again as Marthe Taugbol hit a free kick into the box and Limardo tapped it to Butlion who buried it for the 4-0 lead.
"It was a good win, I think we are happy with the way we moved the ball but not happy with the way we finished. I think that will be a topic for the next couple of days," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Scott Carswell said.
Daytona State College fell to 0-2 in the conference. The Titans will travel to No. 15 Polk State College on Saturday for a 4 p.m. conference game. Polk State College is off to a 5-0 start.
"We know they had a good result against Daytona State College and are playing well. We know we can't take them lightly and that it will be a good game but will be ready," Carswell said.
