The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team opens the regular season Friday in Illinois
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will open the regular season Friday in Illinois.
The Titans, who advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament last season for the 10th straight year, will play Southwestern Illinois College Friday at 7 p.m. EST who are 4-0 on the season. Then on Sunday, the No. 2-ranked Titans will play No. 3 Lewis & Clark in a battle of the top three teams in the nation.
"We are excited, we feel like we did the things leading up to now with practices and preseason games," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Scott Carswell said. "We have had some injuries here and there but the players that came in have done well so that gives us some more options than we originally thought we would have."
The Titans return five players from last season's team including the duo of Paula Garrido and Julieta Limardo, who combined for 20 goals last season.
"We are really excited about the starting lineup but also the depth of our reserves," Carswell said. "To have to just practice and practice since August and to now start when usually you would be wrapping up the season. They have managed it well, they have stayed fit, their attitudes are great. They are a great group of kids and we are excited to finally see them compete at the NJCAA level."
The Titans will be home against Daytona State College at 6 p.m. on April 21.
