Titan women's soccer prepared for Jones County matchup Saturday night
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will have their hands full Saturday night, hosting Jones County Junior College in the District H Championship
One team stands between the Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team and a return to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.
Jones County Junior College comes to Titan Soccer Complex with a 15-1 record and are No. 8 in the NJCAA Division I poll, outscoring opponents 92-10 this season and winners of the MACJC State Tournament Championship.
"We have our hands full, they are a very skilled team especially going forward," said Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr who defeated Jones County in 2013 to advance to the national tournament.
The Titans have been to the tournament every year since then and know they have to play one of their best games defensively to get back there this season.
"We have to be prepared for sure, we have watched them on film and offensively they have good strikers," goalkeeper Taylor Major said. "We have to stay tight and communicate in the back, stay focused and not worry about how strong they are offensively because we are just as strong and I have huge confidence in our team, if we play strong, and just not worry about what they are bringing to the table because we have a lot to bring as well."
The trio of Darien Davis, Bunny Shaw and Nathali Da Silva have combined to score 32 goals this season for the Titans, who come into the contest 12-2 and No. 6 in the NJCAA poll. Eastern Florida State College won the inaugural Region 8 Conference Tournament and have outscored opponents 32-5 in eight games in the month of October.
"We know that each game now, if we lose we are done, so we are getting excited, watching film, getting ready and just getting prepared for this game," midfielder Jay Bales said. "We know that we have the potential to win, we have been through a lot this season and we know we can get through this as well and make it back to the national tournament."
A win on Saturday evening in the District H Championship does just that. A return to the national championship.
