Titan women's soccer defeats Broward College
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team blanked Broward College 4-0 Thursday night at Titan Soccer Complex.
Paula Astiazaran is starting to look like the player that helped lead the Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team to an undefeated regular season last year.
The sophomore is returning from a knee injury and on Thursday looked like she was just about 100 percent in a 4-0 Region 8 victory over Broward College.
"I am trying to get into shape, trying to get the team all together and this was a big win tonight," Astiazaran said. "The other night we played really good and we wanted to come in and keep that going."
They did just that as Juna Suppan got the night started about 20 minutes into the contest with a beautiful free kick that just curled into the top of the net.
"At first I thought it was going over but it just dropped in. It was a great goal," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "I was telling the girls during the delay that if we didn't resume tonight it would not count. They were screaming 'No!' "
After a long weather delay the team was able to finish the game and it did not take long for the Titans to take over.
Just about a minute after the game resumed, a penalty was called in the box and Astiazaran stepped up to take the penalty kick. She buried it to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.
They went into the halftime break up 2-0 but in the second half Darien Davis once again showed off her speed, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach. Both times she outran the defense on through balls and beat the goalkeeper in one-on-one situations.
While it was another big offensive night for the Titans, who improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference, coach Carr knows they can get even better.
"We have not played a complete 90 minutes yet, we were a bit lethargic at times tonight but we are getting there," Carr said.
The Titans will be back at Titan Soccer Complex at 6 p.m. Monday night when they host ASA Miami. The game will be shown live on WEFS-TV and streamed at efsctitans.com/webcast
