Daytona State has big day, continues to lead at national tournament
Daytona State College shot a 4-under 288 for the second straight day and leads at the halfway mark of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Duran Golf Club in Viera
Daytona State College was the only team to shoot under par in the second round of the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National Tournament Tuesday at Duran Golf Club in Viera.
Daytona State College shot a 4-under 288 as a team for the second straight day and is leading Seminole State College by 11 strokes at the halfway point in the tournament.
Angelica Holman continues to pace the Falcons and the tournament, shooting a 7-under par 66 in the second round and is 11-under for the tournament. Holman had a stretch of five straight birdies on 11-15 as the team started on the back nine Tuesday. She would make the turn at 6-under par and added two birdies and a bogey on the front nine to finish the round with a 66.
Teammate Analise Raath shot a 4-under par 69, shooting 3-under on the final nine holes of the day with birdies on No. 1, 2 and 6 at Duran Golf Club.
Seminole State College shot a 296 in the second round as Jane Huang had an eagle for the second straight day, scoring a two on the par-4, 6th hole and shot even par for the second straight day. Teammate Salysa Mason is also even after the first two rounds, shooting 1-under 72 on Tuesday.
Odessa College is in third place after shooting a 301 in the second round.
Mesa College's Alyzzah Vakasiuola shot a 6-under 67 as she birdied the first three holes and made the turn 4-under. She would make birdies on No. 16 and 17 to finish with the 67.
Only nine players scored par or below in the second round as the average score on the par-73 course was 80.77.
"The wind picked up today and changed a bit, but it really didn't set up any different than yesterday, the yardages were almost the same. Maybe the golf course just showed how tough it can be," Howell said.
The third round of the tournament will tee off at 7:30 a.m. at Duran Golf Club.
