EFSC women's golf team wraps up season at Region VIII Tournament

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team wrapped up the season Sunday afternoon, playing in the final round of the Region VIII Tournament at Duran Golf Club.
The Titans shot a 320 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 633.
Sophomore Elise Boccabella and freshmen Gabrielle Fernandez and Valeria Fort all finish tied for 12th overall while teammate Kira Shellman finished 15th and Olivia Timpy was 18th in the tournament.
"I thought overall we played our best and put our best foot forward, some of us, I feel, had better days than others but I feel like we have come a real long way from the beginning of the season and it will be exciting to see what the team can do in the future," Boccabella said.
And while Boccabella shot an 81 in her final round for the Titans, the rest of the team will be back next season.
"It was definitely nice to play at our home course and a course that we are familiar with this weekend," said Fernandez who shot a 77 on Sunday. "We saw so much improvement this year from the first time we came out and played at Duran to this weekend, I think everybody has gotten better and that is the best thing that can happen."
Shellman admitted she has grown a lot in her freshman season, finishing with an 80 on Sunday.
"I was nervous and tense, I was always trying to show people I can do it but as the year went on, it was more so proving to myself and that is when I saw my golf game improve," Shellman said. "I am really excited for next semester to come in with that same attitude, we are on the same team and we are all striving for the same goal and we just keep focusing and pushing to be our best."
Seminole State College won the event, shooting a 288 on Sunday to finish at 574 for the two-day tournament. The Raiders were led by Minori Nagano who shot a 69 Sunday to finish second with a 140 while teammate Alex Giles placed third with a 142.
Daytona State College was second and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. Manon Donche-Gay was the medalist in the tournament, shooting a 69 on Sunday to finish with a 139.
