Women's golf team in fifth at Roadrunner Invitational
The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team is in fifth place after two rounds at the Roadrunner Invitational in Georgia
The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team is in fifth place after the first two rounds of the Roadrunner Invitational at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, Georgia.
The Titans came out in the afternoon session and shot one of their best team scores of the season, a 316 to jump two spots in to fifth place at 642 heading into the final round.
In a tournament filled with some of the top NAIA women's golf programs in the country, the Titans held their own and are in the middle of the pack.
Freshman Valeria Fort shot a 3-over 75 in the second round and is tied for 10th overall at 10-over. Sophomore Elise Boccabella also shot a 75 in the second round and is tied for 20th at 13-over. Gabrielle Fernandez shot an 80 in the first round and is in 36th place while Olivia Timpy and Kira Shellman each shot 83 in the second round. Timpy is tied for 37th and Shellman is tied for 44th.
"We need to adjust better to the course," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Inexperience with the layout cost us, especially around the greens."
Keiser University is leading the tournament by three strokes over host Dalton State as Keiser University is at 596 after two rounds.
The Titans will tee off for the final round on Tuesday.
