Women's golf team ready to open spring season on Monday

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team opens the spring season on Monday in St. Augustine for the World Golf Invitational.

The Titans will be one of 14 teams competing on the Slammer & Squire Course at the World Golf Village, a par 72 course.

"I played this course a couple of years ago but I vaguely remember the course," sophomore Delia Timpy said. "I feel like course management and knowing what shot to take will be the most important thing this week. We are all strong players this season, seeing them now compared to where I was when I was a freshman has me excited for the season."

The freshmen all had strong fall seasons and are excited to begin the spring season.

 "The biggest thing is confidence. After getting a few tournaments under my belt I feel like I have learned so much in the fall that have prepared me for this spring season," freshman Gabrielle Fernandez said. "It is difficult to go into a tournament that you haven't played before but you just have to remember your game and adapt to the course."

Sophomore Elise Boccabella is coming off a strong fall season in which she placed in the top five in two of the four tournaments including a second-place finish at the Webber Fall Invitational.

"From what I have seen online and what I have heard, I think it will play a lot like Suntree Country Club," Boccabella said. "It looks like it is in great shape and I think it will play difficult, I think it is going to be fun."

The World Golf Invitational will be 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday. The tournament is the first of four tournaments this spring before the Region 8 State Tournament.
