The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team picked up a Citrus Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.
Sophomore Shadia Lara Santacruz had two big three-point plays in the fourth quarter as Santa Cruz recorded a double-double in the Titans 58-53 win over Hillsborough Community College. The win evened the season series with the Hawks.
The Titans finished the first quarter on a 6-2 run to lead the first quarter 18-14. The two teams each scored 20 points in the second quarter as Eastern Florida State College held onto a four-point lead at halftime, 38-34.
It would remain close in the third quarter and was tied 49-49 early in the fourth quarter when Santacruz made a basket and was fouled to give the Titans a 52-49 lead with 5:03 remaining. Then with the score tied 52-52 again it was Santacruz with the basket and was fouled. This time the free throw made it 55-52 with 2:16 left.
Up three in the final minute, Santacruz made one last basket to give the Titans a five-point lead.
Santacruz finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Bruna DaSilva finished with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Angela Mirkovic had 11 points and six rebounds in the win.
Malayna Stevenson finished with a game-high 21 points for Hillsborough Community College.
Eastern Florida State College, who is now 7-12 overall and 2-5 in the conference, will be home next Saturday afternoon against Miami Dade College. The game will be at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House and admission is free.
