Softball trio named to NJCAA Division I All-America teams
Eastern Florida State College softball players Avery Velazquez, Annalyn Duncan and Aracelis Jimenez were all honored by the NJCAA on Wednesday
A trio of Eastern Florida State College softball players were named to the NJCAA Division I All-America teams on Wednesday.
Sophomores Avery Velazquez and Annalyn Duncan were named to the second team while Aracelis Jimenez was named to the third team.
Velazquez made the team for the second straight season as the pitcher/designated player was named as the utility player on the second team.
The Ocoee native hit .398 this season with 16 doubles and 12 home runs, driving in 75 runs. The dual threat leaves Eastern Florida State College as the career leader in doubles with 37, home runs with 20 and 144 runs batted in.
On the mound, Velazquez made 20 starts and went 13-8 with a 1.70 ERA and 96 strikeouts. In her two seasons, Velazquez is the wins leader with 37 as well as the strikeout leader with 284 and finished with a 1.40 ERA over 360 2.3 innings with the Titans.
Duncan was named the second team, second baseman after a record-setting season with the Titans. The sophomore hit .410 this season with a team-best 14 home runs and drove in 91 runs which is also a team record. Duncan also had 21 doubles.
Jimenez had a big season as the centerfielder and leadoff hitter for the Titans. The sophomore hit .445 this season with a program record 80 runs scored and 39 stolen bases while playing a stellar centerfield, posting a .949 fielding percentage with five assists and two double plays.
The Orlando native was two hits away from 100 this season which was second in program history but her 182 hits in two seasons is a record as is her 137 runs scored over her two seasons.
All three players were also named to the NFCA/NJCAA Division I All-America first team.
The Titans finished with 45 wins and went to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament for the first time this season.
