Softball team's run at national tournament ends in final eight
The Eastern Florida State College softball team’s run at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament ended Friday afternoon in Alabama, falling to Santa Fe College 6-4
The Eastern Florida State College softball team's run at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament ended Friday afternoon in Alabama.
The Titans lost to Santa Fe College 6-4 and were eliminated in a game played at Jacksonville State University.
Avery Velazquez gave the Titans a lead in the second inning with a bases-clearing single. Up 3-1, Santa Fe scored on in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run by Miranda Murch.
The Saints took the lead in the third inning using some small ball to score twice and take a 4-3 lead in the third. Santa Fe added two more in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead.
Eastern Florida State College scored a run in the fifth as pinch hitter Avery Helms was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Aracelis Jimenez, Madison Velazquez and Isabel Otero each had two hits in the game.
Both losses in the national tournament were to Region 8 opponents.
The Titans finish with a program record 46 wins and the sophomore class has set numerous program records as has this team. They reached the final eight of the NJCAA Division I World Series in the program's first appearance.
