The Eastern Florida State College softball team had a big day against the College of Central Florida Saturday on the road.
The ninth-ranked Titans picked up a pair of wins to improve to 14-6 in the Citrus Conference as they defeated the Patriots 11-4 and then 11-0.
Eastern Florida State College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Madison Velazquez hit a two-run double. The Titans would add three more in the third inning on back-to-back home runs from Annalyn Duncan and Madison Velazquez. It was the first of two home runs for both Duncan and Madison Velazquez in the game.
The College of Central Florida would cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth but the Titans scored twice in the fifth and four times in the sixth to pick up the win.
Madison Velazquez went 3-for-4 with four RBI while Duncan, Aracelis Jimenez, Isabel Otero, Kerissa Howell and Emma George each had two hits.
Hannah Davis picked up the win, tossing four innings of relief for her seventh win of the season.
In Game 2, the Titans struck for eight runs in the third inning and rolled to a five-inning win.
Eastern Florida State College sent 11 players to the plate in the third and eight of them scored highlighted by a grand slam by Avery Velazquez. Kerissa Howell and Jessica Merk each had two-run doubles in the inning.
Avery Velazquez went 3-for-3 with four RBI while Merk went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Isabella Rosales allowed just three hits over five shutout innings for her ninth win.
Eastern Florida State College will host No. 12 Seminole State College on Tuesday afternoon for a conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The game will be shown live on WEFS-TV and admission is free.
