Softball team loses pair of conference games Thursday

The sixth-ranked Eastern Florida State College softball team dropped a couple of Citrus Conference games Thursday evening on the road.

The Titans, who fell to 4-2 in the conference, lost the first game 5-4 and then was no-hit in the second game, 8-0 in five innings to Indian River State College.

In the first game Indian River State College scored a run in each of the first two innings before a two-out rally in the fourth inning. Jaelynne Whipple worked a walk and then Kerissa Howell hammered a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall to tie the game 2-2.

Starting pitcher Zoey Mills looked sharp, allowing just the two runs over five innings and struck out three.

No. 5 Indian River State College took advantage of a couple of walks and some defensive errors to score three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead.

The Titans threatened in the bottom of the seventh but could not tie the game.

Isabel Otero had two hits in the game.

In Game 2, Indian River State College once again took an early lead and then poured it on, winning 8-0 in five innings.

Eastern Florida State College will return home on Saturday for a conference doubleheader against No. 4 Florida Southwestern State College beginning at 1 p.m. Admission to Saturday's game is free and fans can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
