Softball team sweeps Hillsborough to go 4-0 in conference

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a pair of Citrus Conference wins on Friday.
The 12th-ranked Titans improved to 16-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference with a 12-1 and 12-0 victories against Hillsborough Community College.
In Game 1, the Titans got off to a big start behind Kerissa Howell's grand slam in the first inning as they scored five runs in the first inning. Annalyn Duncan hit a two-run double in the second inning and then scored on a Madison Velazquez single.
Up 8-1 in the third inning, Madison Velazquez hit a two-run single to make it 11-1. Jessica Merk hit a double and scored on Isabel Otero double.
Duncan finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, drove in four runs and scored three times. Madison Velazquez went 2-for-2 and Otero had two hits.
Zoey Mills made her season debut, allowing one run over five strong innings for her first win.
In Game 2, the Titans once again got things going early as Aracelis Jimenez and Isabel Otero both reached in the bottom of the first and eventually scored to make it 2-0.
Eastern Florida State College would score two more runs as once again Jimenez and Otero would reach base and score.
Up 4-0, the Titans would explode for eight runs in the fourth inning, sending 13 hitters to the plate. Duncan and Brooklyn Scott each had two-run singles in the inning.
While the Titans were scoring runs, Hannah Davis was dominating Hillsborough, finishing with seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits and retired the final 12 hitters in a five-inning shutout. It was the fourth win for Davis.
Scott finished 2-for-3 while Duncan and Madison Velazquez also had two hits in the win.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to No. 3 Indian River State College for a conference doubleheader that begins at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
