Softball player Avery Velazquez named NFCA First Team All-American

Eastern Florida State College softball player Avery Velazquez was named to the NFCA NJCAA Division I First Team All-America team on Monday.
The freshman from Ocoee, Florida becomes the first Titan to be named an NFCA All-American team and just the fifth Titan softball player to be named an All-American.
Velazquez was 24-11 on the mound with a 1.22 ERA in 224 2/3 innings pitched. She finished with 188 strikeouts. At the plate, Velazquez hit .416 with 22 doubles, eight home runs and drove in 69 runs.
She was named the Joan Joyce Utility/Pitcher first-team All-American for NJCAA Division I which was renamed two seasons ago to honor the late NFCA Hall of Famer and pioneer of women's sports.
Velazquez was named to the NFCA All-Region South team earlier this season and has also been named to the All-FCSAA team as well as the FCSAA All-Tournament team this season.
Eastern Florida State College finished the season 39-22 overall and went 1-2 in the FCSAA Division I Softball Championship in Clearwater.
