The Eastern Florida State College softball team will play in the semifinals of the FCSAA Division I Softball Championships on Thursday afternoon.
The Titans are two wins away from a district title and their first trip to the NJCAA Division I National Championship.
They will face Chipola College in the first semifinal on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.
Chipola College defeated No. 3 seed Indian River State College 2-1 in the second game of the day on Wednesday afternoon. The Indians are 31-18 this season and come in as the No. 6 seed. Offensively Chipola is hitting .313 as a team led by Irene Rabasco who is hitting .406 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 42 runs scored this season. Rabasco was named to the first team All-FCSAA Team this week.
Eastern Florida State College's Avery Velazquez struck out 10 in the 1-0 victory over Northwest Florida State College on Wednesday. Teammate Aracelis Jimenez had two hits in the game and has multiple hits in each of the past four games. The freshman centerfielder is hitting .381 this season as the Titans leadoff hitter.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to Friday's NJCAA South Atlantic District A Championship Game. The loser will go into the B bracket and play Friday at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.
