Velazquez named FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Eastern Florida State College softball pitcher Avery Velazquez was named the FCSAA Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

The freshman from Ocoee had a perfect debut for the Titans, tossing five innings of perfect softball against USC Union on Friday. Velazquez struck out 10 and did not allow a walk in the win. On Saturday the pitcher tossed another shutout, this time over seven innings in a win over Tallahassee State College. She struck out three and once again did not allow a walk.

Then in the second game of the day with the Titans leading 1-0 in the sixth inning, Velazquez came in and got out of a jam in the sixth and struck out the final two hitters in the seventh inning to pick up the save.

Velazquez has not allowed a run in her first 13 2/3 innings with 16 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

The Titans will be home for the season opener at 3 p.m. against Florida State College at Jacksonville.
