Softball team hands Indian River first conference loss of season, splits doubleheader

The Eastern Florida State College softball team snapped Indian River State College's 11-game win streak in the first game of a doubleheader at Titan Softball Complex Saturday.

The Titans, who are now 4-4 in the Southern Conference with the split, scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Indian River State College 3-2 in Game 1 but the Pioneers came back with a 13-5 win in Game 2.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kayla Domon comes up with the bases loaded and one out and crushes the 1-0 pitch to the left field wall, scoring two runs.

The Titans would win the game later in the inning when Makenzie Fore worked a walk with the bases loaded.

Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor picked up the win, allowing four hits and struck out six. Domon finished 3-for-4 with a triple and stolen base.

Indian River State College struck back early in Game 2, scoring five times in the first inning and would lead 12-0 before the Titans scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning. But that is as close as they would get in Game 2.

Once again Domon led the offense, going 2-for-2 with another triple and an RBI.

Eastern Florida State College heads into a big conference week 16-16 on the season and have won four of the past six. They will travel to Miami Dade College Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. and then will host South Florida State College April 2 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
