Softball team falls to Indian River in conference-opening doubleheader

The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost both sides of a doubleheader Wednesday in the Southern Conference opener at Indian River State College.
The Titans lost 7-0 and 1-0 to fall to 12-14 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
In the first game, Indian River State College scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings to pick up the win.
Courtney Stout went 2-for-3 and Kayla Domon also had two hits while starting pitcher Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor took the loss.
In Game 2, the Pioneers scored the lone run in the bottom of the third inning after a two-out walk and then a double.
Trinity Howard had a stellar day on the mound, allowing one run on five hits over six innings. The starting pitcher struck out four in the loss.
Offensively the Titans managed three hits but threatened in the top of the seventh inning but stranded a runner on third to end the game.
Eastern Florida State College will host Miami Dade on Saturday in a Southern Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex.
