Men's cross country team placed 15th at national championships
The Eastern Florida State College men's cross country team placed 15th overall at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in Tallahassee
The Eastern Florida State College men's cross country team placed 15th in the NJCAA Division I National Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.
The Titans finished 15th in the inaugural season of the program.
Freshman Dayton Law placed 36th overall in the race, running the 8K in 26 minutes, 22 seconds to finish a successful first season with the Titans.
Law started the race in the back of the pack but quickly moved through the field in the first 5,000 meters, running in the top 30 before finishing 36th.
Gabriel Garcia also worked his way through the field, finishing 77th overall with a time of 28:15.1 while teammate Charlie Dickinson was right behind him, running in 28:31.2 for 84th overall.
Kai Cheatham ran a 31:13.2 and Ethan Heise finished in 32:26.7 to help the Titans finish in the top 15.
"The boys asked me how I would rate the day, I said I would give us an A- or B+," Eastern Florida State College men's cross country coach Doug Butler said. "We don't have a lot depth in our first season so if one of our top five doesn't have a good day, it affects us more than a team with depth. A top 15 finish was our goal so overall happy."
The Titans were the top Florida team at the event.
Colby Community College won the national title, defeating Iowa Central Community College and Northwest Kansas. Colby's Sanele Masondo won the individual title, edging Butler Community College's Rodger Rotich by 0.4 seconds for the title.
