Men's tennis players will compete at ITA Cup this weekend
The Eastern Florida State College men’s tennis team will be competing at the ITA Cup at Berry College in Rome, Georgia this weekend
Three Eastern Florida State College men's tennis players will be competing against the best players in JUCO tennis at the ITA Cup at Berry College in Rome, Georgia this weekend.
Freshman Fernando Martinez Belinchon is the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will open against Tyler Junior College's Luka Van Geel in the quarterfinals. The match will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday.
"I feel very excited to go there, going to be some really good players there and I am excited to compete," Martinez Belinchon said. "It is very good, it means a lot to me to have the No. 2 seed and I believe this will be a higher level and I am excited for the opportunity. I have been practicing hard and have been working on my game. I am excited."
Martinez Belinchon won the ITA JUCO Men's Southeast Regional singles championship to advance to the ITA Cup.
The Titans also have the doubles team of Filip Sormaz and Marko Miljanic come in as the No. 3 seed and will open the ITA Cup against Pratt Community College's Edward Westfall and Daniil Blinov at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
"The players are really good, it will help us to see what the level will be like and see who we will be competing with both here and in the spring at nationals," Sormaz said. "It is exciting to be playing with the best players in the country and hopefully we can show how hard we have been working and do well. We are just excited for the opportunity."
The doubles team have been together for just a few weeks but have become comfortable playing together.
"I feel good, I think we have a good chance at the ITA Cup," Miljanic said. "We have been practicing good together and I think we are ready."
The doubles team won the ITA JUCO Men's Southeast Regional doubles title to advance to the ITA Cup.
