Men's tennis team has good first day at ITA Southeast Regionals

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team had a good first day at the ITA JUCO Men's Southeast Regional Championship in Jasper, Alabama.
Six of the eight singles players advanced to the round of 16 after the first day while two doubles teams are in the quarterfinals.
No. 1 seed Fernando Martinez Belinchon had a bye and then picked up a win against Coastal Alabama's Lucas Van Splunteren 6-0, 6-4. Belinchon has advanced to the round of 16.
No. 2 seed Pablo Garcia picked up a win against Bevill State's Luke Gardiner 6-1, 6-1 and will face Coastal Alabama's Julien Cordeau on Saturday in the round of 16.
No. 3 seed Zachariah Achour picked up a win against Wallace State's William Johnson 6-4, 6-1 and will face teammate Marko Miljanic who beat Bevill State's Ilian Delalande 6-0, 6-2 and Coastal Alabama's Milan Olagnon 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16.
No. 5 seed Filip Sormaz opened against teammate Ignacio Sendra and it was one of the matches of the day in Alabama. Sendra won the first set 7-5, but Sormaz won the second in a tiebreak 7-6(8-6) before winning the third set 6-3. Sormaz will play Coastal Alabama's Nils Guyot in the round of 16.
No. 6 seed Johan Mottlau opened with a win against Wallace State's Matias Vargas 6-4, 6-0 and will play Coastal Alabama's Brendan Smith today.
Tomas Kurz lost in the round of 64, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles the team had two teams advance as the No. 1 seed Filip Sormaz and Marko Miljanic advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-5 win over USC Sumter's Jet Capasso and Rory Carlyle.
Sormaz and Miljanic will play Coastal Alabama's Nils Guyot and Brendan Smith Saturday afternoon.
Also in the quarterfinals are the duo of Fernando Martinez Belinchon and Ignacio Sendra who picked up a couple of wins on Friday to advance to the quarterfinals. They will play Coastal Alabama's Enzo Loots and Lucas Van Splunteren, who beat EFSC's Pablo Garcia and Zachariah Achour 9-7 Friday night. The quarterfinal match is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
Tomas Kurz and Johan Mottlau opened with an 8-3 win but fell in the round of 16.
