Men's tennis team has another good day at NJCAA national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team had another good day at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Tucson, Arizona. 

Three singles players and two doubles teams advanced to the national tournament semifinals with wins on Wednesday at Reffkin Tennis Center. 

Sophomore Adriel Azucey advanced to the semifinals at No. 3 singles by defeating Cowley's Nicolas Mougaillard 6-3, 6-2 in a quarterfinal matchup. Azucey will face ASA Miami's Sergio Ingles on Thursday at 8 a.m. Ingles, the No. 2 seed, won the regular season meeting with Azucey in the regular season.

Freshman Sebastian Bunster knocked off No. 3 seed Jorge Sala Frigeri of Mesa 6-3 and 7-6 to advance to the semifinals at No. 5 singles. Bunster will play No. 2 seed Matthew Beecher of Tyler at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Freshman Nicholas Mora is also in the semifinals at No. 6 singles after defeating Laredo's Rodrigo Mere 6-1, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. Mora will play No. 1 seed Tomas Santantonio of ASA Miami in the semifinals at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Frederik Oervad and Azucey advanced to the semifinals on Wednesday by beating Hinds' Mateo Garcia and Carlos Trujillo in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. They will play Cowley's Bruno Suiama and Angelo Tost in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The No. 2 doubles team of Nils Michel and Nicholas Mora also advanced to the semifinals Wednesday, defeating Barton's Mariano Cabrera and Oswaldo Cano 6-4, 6-2. They will face No. 1 seed Matt Carroll and Ingles from ASA Miami on Thursday at 1 p.m.

"This is a big step forward for our program and are proud and happy for the boys," Eastern Florida State College assistant men's tennis coach Brandon Stokes said. "It has been a complete team effort in demanding conditions in the desert and the boys are excited for Semifinal Thursday!"

In the consolation round, freshman Fabricio Galvan won both of his matches at No. 4 singles to advance to the semifinals where he will play Harford's John Brett at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Galvan and Sebastian Bunster are also in the consolation quarterfinals at No. 3 doubles and will play Barton's Octavio Carrasco and Tom Letecheur on Thursday.
