No. 2 doubles team makes semifinals at national tournament
Eastern Florida State College No. 2 doubles team of Adriel Azucey and Nils Michel have advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament
The No. 2 doubles team of Adriel Azucey and Nils Michel advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament Wednesday in Plano, Texas.
The Eastern Florida State College duo defeated No. 6 seed Guilherme Dos Santos and Diego Orduz 6-4, 6-1 to become the first Titans in program history to make the semifinals of the national tournament.
Azucey and Michel are the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 seed Alejandro Hayen and Aaron Westerlund of Tyler Junior College for a spot in the championship match.
Overall the Titans sit in fifth place with 25 points heading to the semifinals. ASA Miami and Tyler Junior College are tied for the top spot with 36 points.
All six singles players lost in quarterfinals matches on Wednesday as did the No. 3 doubles team of Fabricio Galvan and Milan Silvac.
The No. 1 doubles team of Alwyn Mushonga and Andreas Wejs lost in the consolation bracket quarterfinals, winning the first set 7-5, then lost 6-4 and 10-4.
The No 2 doubles team will take the court at 12:30 p.m. central time in the semifinals at Collin County Tennis Facilities.
