The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team will open the spring season Monday at the Titan Winter Invitational at Suntree Country Club.
The field will be filled with good teams as Central Alabama, Wallace State and Eastern Florida State College are in the tournament and are coming off a national tournament appearance. NJCAA Division II National Champion Mississippi Gulf Coast will also be at Suntree Country Club along with Murray State.
Keiser University, who finished fourth in the NAIA National Championships last season along with Southeastern University, Webber International University, Palm Beach State College are among the 13 teams that will be in the tournament.
"It's a good one, a little deeper field than usual. We have a good field, should be tight competition but you can't sit around and look at the board, we have to take care of our business," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said.
The men's golf team finished 19th overall in the national tournament last season and had a strong fall season, winning the Kaiser Seahawk Shootout and finished second in three other tournaments.
"It was a rough start to the spring because the weather has been so bad, its winter and we have played like the weather, we struggled," Howell said. "But things have gotten better this week as the weather has calmed down. Hopefully we get some decent weather and can keep things going."
The Titans Winter Invitational will have a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Monday on the Classic Course for the first round with the second round scheduled for Monday afternoon. The final round will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m.
