Boyer named the Hal Chasey Scholar Athlete of the Year

Eastern Florida State College men's basketball player Brody Boyer was named theFCSAA Region 8 Hal Chasey Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2020-21 season.

The Hal Chasey Scholar Athlete of the Year Award goes to the top men's basketball player in the NJCAA Region 8/Florida College System Activities Association for outstanding academic achievement, athletic achievement and service to the community.

Boyer, a Palm Bay native, started 23 games for the Titans, averaging 8.1 points per game and 4.5 rebounds in his second season with Eastern Florida State College. In the classroom, Boyer has a 3.93 grade point average.

"Just beyond excited that Brody was named the Hal Chasey Scholar Athlete of the Year," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "Brody is the epitome of a true student-athlete. Incredible success in the classroom, and an outstanding player on the court, as the starting PG and All-Conference player. So proud of Brody!"

The guard was an NJCAA All-Academic First Team member in 2020 and has won a conference championship both seasons with the Titans. During hurricane season, Boyer helps put up hurricane shutters for those who need help and around the holidays he puts Thanksgiving baskets together and delivers them and is a volunteer gift rapper at Christmas for families in the community. He is the first Titan to receive the award since Ben Patrick was named in 2014.

Boyer will also be a finalist for the FCSAA Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which will be announced as part of the FCSAA's End-of-Year Awards that includes Male and Female Athlete of the Year and Male and Female Academic Team of the Year.
