Men's basketball team wraps up Grimes Classic with win

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team used a 19-4 run in the first half to defeat Broward College 87-76 in the final game of the Jim Grimes Classic Saturday at Titan Field House.

The Titans scored 53 points in the first half, the fifth time this season the 9-3 Titans have scored at least 50 points in a half. Johnny Bernard led the attack in the first half, scoring all 12 of his points in the first half.

Broward College took advantage of some cold shooting as well as turnovers to get back into the game, cutting the lead to single digits twice but the Titans hit some timely baskets to make sure they held on for the win.

Nick Stampley led the Titans with 15 points including three 3-pointers while Bernard and Jonathan Ned each had 12 points, while Mikal Starks and Ayo Dada each had 10 in the win.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to ASA Miami on Tuesday and compete in the Florida JUCO Shootout next weekend, playing Northwest Florid and Broward College. They will return to Titan Field House after Christmas, hosting the Josh Artis Memorial Classic Dec. 30-Jan. 2.

In the first game of the day, No. 10 Florida Southwestern finished off a big weekend, defeating No. 10 Salt Lake Community College 80-75. Maddox Daniels had some big 3-pointers in the second half and finished with a team-high 25 points.

Salt Lake was led by Cameron Mack's game-high 39 points.
