Baseball team falls short in conference opener

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team's rally fell short Thursday in the Citrus Conference opener at Bruce Bochy Field.
The Titans came back from an early 6-0 deficit but lost 10-8 to Polk State College.
Down 6-0 after two innings, Eastern Florida State College would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning as Chris Carroll hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 6-2. Back-to-back doubles by Zach Lester and Kustarr Webb made it 7-2.
But the Titans once again battled back as Jacob Miller hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Omir Santos and Bryce Jackson who had both singled. Two more runs in the sixth inning cut the lead to 7-6 as Jackson Wargo and Carroll each scored runs.
In the top of the eighth inning, Kenay Acevedo and Marvin Montenegro each drove in runs as they increased the lead to 10-6.
Bryce Jackson crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, cutting the lead back to 10-8.
Eastern Florida State College would load the bases with two out in the ninth as Santos and Andrew Prieto each singled and then Bryce Jackson walked before Polk State got the final out.
Jackson had three hits and three RBI with his first home run while Jacob Miller also had three hits in the game. Jackson Wargo walked four times and scored twice as the Titans finished with 14 hits.
Brayden Potter hit a two-run home run and had two hits while Kustarr Webb hit a two-run triple and an RBI double for Polk State College.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Polk State College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday.
