Eastern Florida State College pitcher Michael Benedict was named the NJCAA Division I National Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
The sophomore from Port St. Lucie had his best start of the season Saturday against Daytona State College, tossing six shutout innings in a 9-1 victory.
Benedict struck out five of the first hitters he faced on his way to 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in the game.
The right-hander is 4-0 this season with a save and has a 3.07 ERA in 44 innings of work with 42 strikeouts. He has been really good in his past three starts, allowing three earned runs over the past 14 2/3 innings.
Benedict is the first Titan since the 2018-19 season to be the national pitcher of the week. Connor Brian won the award in January.
The Titans will be home on Thursday evening to open the conference series against the State College of Florida-Manatee at 6 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field. Admission is free and the game will be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
