Baseball team beats Indian River as Fisher, Smith reach milestones
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team picked up a Southern Conference win over Indian River State College Saturday afternoon
A couple of players hit milestones to help the Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeat Indian River State College Saturday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field.
The Titans beat the Pioneers 8-6 to split the series 2-2.
Freshman Lake Fisher hit his 12th home run of the season in the first inning, a three-run shot to give the Titans an early lead. It was the first of three hits for Fisher, who also had two doubles on the day.
Starting pitcher Darien Smith struck out seven hitters in the no-decision which gave him 100 strikeouts for the season.
Indian River tied the game in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth inning, but the Titans stormed back with three in the bottom of the fifth. Garrett Evans hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to make it 8-5.
But the Pioneers loaded the bases with nobody out and head coach Jason Arnold brought in Fisher. He walked the first guy, bringing the score to 8-6 but then got a strikeout and a double play to end the game.
Evans finished with four hits, scoring three times and driving in two. He also stole a base.
KC Swords struck out six in 3 2/3 innings of relief, picking up his second team and Fisher picked up his second save of the season.
The Titans, who are 6-11 in the Southern Conference, open a four-game series with Palm Beach State College Tuesday night at 4 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field.
