Baseball team tops Palm Beach State College in 11 innings
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team scored seven times in the 11th inning to pick up the 9-2 win in the first game of the series with Palm Beach State College
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team scored seven times in the 11th inning to pick up the Southern Conference win against Palm Beach State College on the road.
The Titans picked up the 9-2 win Wednesday in the first game of a three-game series, locking up their second straight win of the season.
And they used the long ball once again to pick up the win, hitting three home runs in the game.
The Titans got on the board first as Tyler Isenberg singled, scoring Nathan Housen in the top of the fourth inning. Palm Beach State College would tie it in the bottom of the fourth inning.
It would remain tied until Lake Fisher hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give the Titans a lead.
But with two out in the bottom of the eighth, Brannon Mondragon hit a solo home run to tie the game once again.
That set up the Titans for a huge finish in the 11th inning. Chet Moore led off the inning by hitting a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall to take a lead. It was Moore's fifth home run of the season and gave the Titans the lead.
And the Titans were not done as Drew Cavanaugh drove in two runs with a double to right field.
Up 5-2, Eastern Florida State College's Garrett Evans had an RBI single and then Kaeber Rog made it 7-2 with an RBI single.
With two out in the inning, Drew Stubbs drilled a two-run home run to make it 9-2. It was Stubbs' second home run of the season.
Starting pitcher Tyler Vogel struck out eight, allowing one run on five hits over six innings. KC Swords picked up the win, tossing three shutout innings and struck out three in extra innings.
Rog finished with three hits in the game.
The Titans, who are 14-18 overall and 2-5 in the conference, will host Palm Beach State College Friday at 4 p.m. for Game 2 of the series. Sophomore Darien Smith will take the mound for Eastern Florida State College.
