Baseball team's rally falls short against Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team could not get the big hit against Miami Dade Friday afternoon, falling 9-5 in a Southern Conference matchup in Miami.

The Titans will wrap up the three-game series with the Sharks Saturday at 1 p.m. in Miami. Freshman JT Larsen will get the start for the Titans.

On Friday the Titans came out swinging, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. But Miami Dade would score twice in the bottom of the first to tie it and then scored two more in the second inning. 

Miami Dade would take a 9-2 lead in the fifth inning, but the Titans would rally back as Lake Fisher hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to cut the lead to 9-5. It was Fisher's sixth home run of the season and the freshman drove in four runs.

The Titans would threaten again in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out but Fisher hit a rocket to third that was caught and turned into a double play to end the game.

Chet Moore, Kaeber Rog and Fisher each had two hits in the game.

Saturday will be Larsen's third start of the season and the redshirt-sophomore has a 2.37 ERA in 19 innings pitched for the Titans, .

"JT competes. He wants the ball," Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Jason Arnold said. "He pitches with emotion and he continues to have success for us. He's where we want him to be heading into the conference season."
