Baseball team wins second straight vs. Indian River State
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Indian River State College 8-6 for the second straight game at Bruce Bochy Field Friday
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team rallied for their second straight win against Indian River State College Friday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field.
The Titans and Pioneers came out swinging early but it was the Titans taking the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring an 8-6 win.
Indian River State College scored twice in the top of the first inning, but the Titans struck back as Dylan Espinal and Cristian Sanjurjo singled to open the game. Sophomore Elian Merejo hit a 1-2 pitch over the left-field wall for a 3-2 lead. It was Merejo's sixth home run of the season.
Indian River would retake the lead in the top of the second, scoring three more times and would hold the lead until the bottom of the third when Jasson Corniel hit a two-run single scoring Sanjurjo and Andres Ramos. Indian River would tie it up 5-5 in the fourth inning.
Cam Weinberger came into the game to start the top of the fifth inning and pitched four scoreless innings for the win, his third of the season. Weinberger allowed just three hits and struck out seven without issuing a walk.
With Weinberger settling in, the Titans would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Paul Castillo walked, stole second and would later score on a wild pitch. Kevin Silva would give the Titans the lead for good with an RBI single later in the fifth.
Ramos drove in the final run of the day, hitting an RBI double that scored Dylan Espinal.
Espinal, Sanjurjo, Corniel and Silva all finished with two hits apiece.
The Titans, who are now 5-13 in the Southern Conference, will travel to Indian River State College to wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at noon.
