Baseball team tops Indian River State College
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Indian River State in the first game of a four-game series on Wednesday
Elian Merejo broke a tie in the seventh inning to help the Eastern Florida State College baseball team beat Indian River State College Wednesday evening at Bruce Bochy Field.
With the game tied 3-3 Merejo stepped into the box with two outs and hit a double scoring Dylan Espinal and Cristian Sanjurjo to give the Titans the lead for good as they won 5-3.
Raynieri De Los Santos Disla had his best start as a Titan, tossing six strong innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
Down 1-0, the Titans scored twice in the second inning as Andres Ramos walked, then scored on Paul Castillo's double. Castillo would score on Mason Studstill's sacrifice fly.
After Indian River State College tied the game in the top of the sixth inning, the Titans took the lead back after Ramos walked and would score from second base on a passed ball.
Indian River State College would tie it again in the top of the seventh inning at 3-3.
Zak Botelle had a 1-2-3 eighth inning and JP Williams struck out the side in the ninth inning on 12 pitches to give the Titans their 17th win of the season.
Game 2 of the four-game series with Indian River State College will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field.
