Baseball team picks up win on the road
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Lake Sumter 8-2 on the road Saturday afternoon
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team got a strong start from freshman Pablo Barquero as the Titans picked up an 8-2 victory over Lake Sumter Saturday on the road.
Barquero tossed five shutout innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits for his first win of the season. The Titans got on the board first in the third inning as Dylan Espinal walked, stole second and scored on Elian Merejo's single. Dylan Owens would walk and then Merejo and Owens pulled off a double steal to be on second and third. Jasson Corniel would drive in both with a single to make it 3-0.
Then in the fifth inning, the Titans broke it open with five more runs. Merejo doubled and scored on Andres Ramos' single. Ramos scored on Kevin Silva's single and then Rutledge scored on Dylan Espinal's single. Silva would score as well to make it 8-0.
Merejo, Corniel and Espinal each had two hits in the game for the Titans.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Rollins College on Monday to play the Rollins JV team before returning to Bruce Bochy Field to host Daytona State College at 5 pm. on Wednesday night for the first of three straight home games.
