Tommy Romero named NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week

Eastern Florida State College's Tommy Romero was named the NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Romero helped the Titans punch their ticket to the FCSAA State Tournament last Thursday, throwing eight strong innings against St. Petersburg. Romero struck out 12 and did not walk a hitter, allowing just one run.

"He is just a horse, he is an absolute horse and anyone would love to have him, we are fortunate that we have him and he goes out and does what he is supposed to do. That is what a No. 1 starter does. He goes out there and dominates and gives us a chance to win games," Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Jeff Tam said after the win.

For the season, Romero leads Region 8 in earned run average (1.13) and strikeouts (136). He is tied for third in wins with nine.

The Titans will open the state tournament at 4 p.m. Friday when they face Northwest Florida State at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.
