Titans baseball team rallies past Lake Sumter
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Lake Sumter College 10-9 Saturday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Lake Sumter College 10-9 for their fourth straight win Saturday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field.
Down 5-2 in the fifth inning, the top of the order once again got things going for the Titans. Sebastian Rivera led off the inning with his first home run of the season, a shot over the right field fence. Ian Acevedo reached on an error and scored on Jacob McFadden's RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4.
Reliever Jack Corbell had a quick top of the sixth and the Titan bats went back to work. Dylan Owens led off with a deep double to right-center field and Jasson Corniel and Norberto Navarro followed with singles. Anthony Martinez laid down a perfect bunt to open the scoring. The Titans would score four times and take an 8-5 lead.
Lake Sumter would tie things back up in the seventh inning but Martinez got things started with a single and broke the tie, scoring on a passed ball. Rivera, who was hit by a pitch, scored on Sammy Duran's sacrifice fly and the Titans were up 10-8.
Lake Sumter would get one in the top of the ninth, but Eddie Escribano got the next three hitters out to secure his first win of the season.
Acevedo finished with three hits while Martinez had two.
The Titans, who are 11-4 on the season, will open the Southern Conference on the road, traveling to Indian River State College for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday afternoon. They will be back at Bruce Bochy Field Tuesday evening, hosting Palm Beach State at 5 p.m. The game will be televised live on WEFS-TV and streamed live at www.njcaatv.com/efsc
