Big inning leads Titans baseball team to easy win

Sophomore Ian Acevedo was moved up in the batting order before the game and it proved to be a good move on Wednesday night against Daytona State College.

The third baseman hit second for the first time this season and went 4-for-4 with a triple and hit his first home run of the season, coming a double shy of hitting for the cycle in the Titans 21-2 victory in seven innings at Bruce Bochy Field.

"I started a bit slow this season but the coaches told me to keep my head up, trust the process and don't try to find what is wrong, just have a positive mind and go have a good day," Acevedo said.

He did just that, driving in six runs and scoring four more in the game. His home run came in the middle of the Titans' 11-run inning in which they almost batted around twice.

"It was a fastball away, right where I like it," Acevedo said. "I saw the ball well today and I just need to build on that."

Teammate Sammy Duran went 4-for-5, driving in three runs and scoring twice while Anthony Martinez went 3-for-3 with two doubles, scoring four times. The team had 19 hits in six innings.

Starting pitcher Gabriel Rodriguez improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing one earned run on one hit in five innings of work. The sophomore struck out five.

The Titans, who improved to 5-2 on the season, will travel to Florida State College of Jacksonville Thursday for a 5 p.m. game. They will return to Bruce Bochy Field next Wednesday, hosting Daytona State College once again.
