Two freshmen scored their first goals as the Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team defeated Chivas USA 6-0 Wednesday night at Titan Soccer Complex.
Isaque Couto and Franco Guglielmucci came off the bench to score their first career goals on a rainy, windy night.
"Isaque has been patiently waiting and working hard for his minutes and he put up some good minutes tonight and got two fantastic goals and was a bit unlucky not to get a third. Franco worked hard off the bench, got his chance tonight and put the ball in the back of the net," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "Hakeem (Reid) at center back was very impressive and looked like he was back to where he was at the beginning of the season. I was impressed with the team effort, we are trying to build a culture and get this team to do what they need to be doing on and off the pitch and tonight was a good demonstration of how we can play when we do that."
Jimmy Mwanga opened the scoring with 10 minutes and 37 seconds left in the first half with a nice shot past the Chivas keeper. It was the first of two goals for the freshman who now has sx goals on the season.
Couto made it 2-0 with his first goal, getting the ball in the middle of the box, taking a quick dribble and blasting a shot into the back of the net. Couto would score 15 minutes into the second half to make it 3-0.
Mickey George set up the fourth goal with a cross that Mwanga hit a sliding shot into the back of the net.
Danilo Orsi Dadomo scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season and Guglielmucci rounded out the scoring with the first of his Titans career.
"Tonight was really about building that chemistry and seeing who the guys are we can trust down the stretch and rely on in those crucial conference games coming up," Twelvetrees said.
Eastern Florida State College will be back at Titan Soccer Complex Friday night, hosting Webber International JV at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
